There are valid reasons to select either a conventional website construction or utilize the ease and popularity of blogs.
Conventional website construction lends itself to absolute control over every aspect of the website. This includes content, appearance, and ownership of the design. While this permits total control of the appearance, the price to be paid comes by way of the need of hand coding the website or utilizing some form of software that facilitates the coding process, thereby eliminating the need to fully understand HTML code.
With that in mind, it can be more difficult to pass on management of that website to someone else that is either unfamiliar with HTML code or does not own website management software. The price for total control thus becomes limitation in access and management.
Many blogs are constructed based on the Wordpress Blog Framework. This is a base website with no frills that can be used by anyone worldwide. It need not be managed from one primary computer. The operating files are all placed at the web hosting site. A database is also established at the hosting site to manage the data that will make this blog or website specific to this user's needs. Changes can be affected anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection. There can be unlimited users if the administration of the blog is set up that way. The administrator may even set up user log ins that permit changes in only specified regions of the blog. That means a user may be provided a log in to add new posts but changes to the blog structure are denied.
The basic WordPress Blog has been to designed so that outside developers can design new styles or themes that offer a new look and some personal customization of the structure of the information is possible. This has opened up a whole new source of resources to the blog user. There are literally thousands of free themes available for download. The creative minds of the world enjoy this opportunity to create the most attractive and user friendly website (blog) for users. Traditionally the only cost to use these designs is to display Author information and links on your website.
The end result realized from the WordPress framework is a free web design that can be utilized by anyone, and anywhere there is an internet connection with no additional software required. The biggest downside to all of this is the fact that your own creativity is somewhat limited to the design and appearance offered by the creator. Changes to the appearance are possible but knowledge of HTML code and CSS style-sheet coding is necessary. These are probably issues most users are avoiding when deciding to use a blog format.
It has also been discovered that the search engines visit blogs often because they typically offer more frequent updates and fresh information to visitors. This means that your information is updated more frequently in the search engines and your information is offered to visitors more quickly.
Blogs are probably not as useful to present a huge number of linked pages to visitors, are somewhat limited in control over the appearance regarding colors, fonts and images but offer ease of use and flexibility regarding management of new information.
For absolute control over every aspect of your website, the conventional website will likely be the option of choice. Choose the method the most suits your needs and capabilities.
